THE MULBERRY PHILOSOPHY
Life is a series of transitions, successes, struggles, and questions. Sometimes these situations can feel too complicated or overwhelming to process alone. Therapy can be a helpful tool for support in understanding your story, connecting with the present, and preparing for a bright future.

Hey you! I'm Sam :) Have you ever felt like no one really got you? I've been there. Most of my life I struggled to accept myself and feel comfortable in my own skin-- and honestly, I'm still a work in progress. The healing journey is never a straightforward, linear path, so I'm here to help you read the terrain. If you're looking for a therapist who is nonjudgmental, compassionate, and a little goofy-- you've found her! I decided to become a therapist to help others like myself discover their story, improve connections, and rebuild their inner worlds. Let's rediscover who you are together.
About me: In my free time you can find me reading, doing yoga, cooking (eating), or hiking with my husband, Jake, and our rescue dog, Bruce. I love listening to podcasts and all kinds of music. I also enjoy crafting—especially painting, crochet, jewelry making, and home decor projects!
Theories: INTEGRATIVE: person-centered, acceptance commitment therapy, polyvagal theory, relational-cultural theory, and existentialism
Who Do I Work With? Any folks over the age of 18 working through issues appropriate for outpatient counseling services. I am particularly drawn to clients who are ready to commit to building self-awareness, assertiveness and accountability skills.
What personal experiences or identities factor into my work? Authenticity is crucial for me. I present as much of my genuine self in sessions as possible. As a trauma survivor, it is important to me that I create a therapeutic environment that feels safe and accepting.
I am knowledgeable about... Chronic pain/ chronic illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder, complex trauma, sexual violence, medical marijuana, codependency, attachment styles, queerness, & relationship issues.
How can therapy help?
Chronic Pain &
Chronic Illness
Coping with physical, invisible, or chronic conditions can take its toll mentally and spiritually. Therapy can help with better understanding the mind-body-spirit connection and learning tools to manage distress.
Codependency
Many individuals find themselves in a painful cycle of interpersonal problems. If you find that another person's behavior has affected you so much so that you become obsessed with controlling that behavior, you may be struggling with codependent tendencies. Discovering a new, healthy way of relating is possible through therapy.
Trauma
Traumatic experiences cause disruptions to the body's nervous system. This "survival mode" can become the default, leading to cycles of emotional addiction, self-betrayal, shame. Therapy can help to untangle some of these painful memories or experiences while equipping you with tools to retrain the body's nervous system.
Anxiety
Excessive worrying about the future can also trigger the body's autonomic nervous system. This "survival brain" is hyperfocused on potential threats, preventing access to (& causing problems in) the present. Therapy can help you cope with this distress and learn strategies for staying present.
Depression
If you are experiencing negative thoughts about yourself, the world or your future, therapy can help you learn to cope with these pains. Sadness, loneliness, and grief are normal parts of the human experience. If you are experiencing these for an extended period or have started experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors, counseling can help you learn to manage your emotions more effectively.
Stress
Stress is a reality of our every day. Currently, social unrest, community violence, political discourse, and the long-term effects of a global pandemic amplify this reality leading to exponentially higher stress levels. Therapy can be helpful in coping with the ups-and-downs of daily living.
